Founded in Birmingham in 2000 Fret & Fiddle draw inspiration from the small string bands of the 30's and 40's, and particularly from the most famous of all: the Quintette du Hot Club de France featuring Stéphane Grappelli. Stéphane Grappelli was the world's foremost jazz violinist, respected and loved by musicians and audience alike for his intuitive lyricism and fiery swing. The repertoire consists of songs that Grappelli played during his 75-year career: the top hits of Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, George Gershwin and Hoagy Carmichael and Grappelli's own songs.
